Project Description:

The Country Studio is a satellite office for Bar Build, set within a converted cow shed turned business premises in Kingham, Chipping Norton. Vaulted ceilings and original stone walls anchor the space, paired with a warm, neutral Farrow & Ball palette and rough polished concrete flooring.

The brief was to bring Bar Build’s identity to the Cotswolds, softened from their sleeker head office into something warmer. A reception area and an enlarged kitchenette open into a long, narrow office lit by natural light across two central desk banks. The shell was blank, white walls with little beyond its original beams and stone. We built impact through scale rather than structure: a large reclaimed dresser filled with curiosities and books, one long desk running the room’s length, and planting throughout. The challenge was balance, giving the space warmth without undermining its function as an office. Curiosities were grouped into fixed units rather than left loose, keeping character without daily upkeep. The result carries Bar Build’s established wood tones while feeling distinctly its own, contemporary but true to the building’s bones.

Working with Kirstie at Ordinary Interiors was altogether a very satisfactory and productive experience. Firstly, they listened to our ideas and came back with a design which was responsive while containing elements that we had not and would not have thought of. This consultative approach continued through the implementation phase. Not only were we kept up to date with progress, but we were consulted when adjustments had to be made to the original plan. Last but not least, they were very conscious of the agreed budget and worked diligently to adhere to it. We are extremely pleased with what Ordinary Interiors did for us and have no hesitation in recommending them to prospective clients.
